The Disadvantages of a Vegetarian Diet
Disadvantages of a Vegetarian Diet Are Many Everybody talks about the benefits of a vegetarian diet, let's mention the disadvantages: You will have to make new friends in your old age because you will outlive your contemporaries You will have to buy a new wardrobe because you lost so much flab You will not enjoy sitting around the lunchroom with coworkers who complain about their aches and pains anymore--you'll have nothing to say One of the big problems with a vegetarian diet is trying to find clothes small enough to fit you It will be rough watching your friends--and former girlfriends--grow larger and larger Another of the disadvantages of a vegetarian diet is that you won't be able to barbeque anymore--the tofu keeps slipping through the grill! You will have too much time and money on your hands from your savings on buying meat, Tagamet, Prilosec, and ExLax You will miss seeing your doctor as often as you used to (Maybe!) One of the biggest disadvantages of a vegetarian diet is the frustration of watching friends who won't change their eating habits with you, when you know it would help them
It will be a big drag being the only thin person in most cocktail parties you are invited to. Your health will stick out like a sore thumb, will most of the crowd tacitly believing you're just genetically lucky...or starving yourself. You will get little respect for the magnificent achievement of maintaining a healthy weight for life--Oh well! You will look much younger than people your age, which will cause them discomfort--they will treat you as a younger person, which isn't so bad. The biggest disadvantage is to know the solution to your friends' health and weight problems, but they don't want to hear it and don't do anything about it, even if they are interested If you want the truth of the matter, there are no disadvantages to being a vegetarian, any more than there are disadvantages to missing out on the experience of a heart attack because you turned down so much rich, fattening food. Everything in life is a trade-off. It is a matter of what your priorities are. Which would you rather have: a long and healthy life, staying young-looking into old age? or spend much of your time eating delicious, but unhealthy foods whose pleasure lasts but a few moments and then having a heart attack, stroke, or Alzheimer's Disease? Seriously, though, there are no disadvantages of a vegetarian diet. Choosing not to eat animals and fish on a regular basis says you are doing your part to advance the spiritual evolution of humanity. Einstein said as much. It says you will not be supporting wasteful and cruel farming practices anymore. It tells those around you that there is another dimension to life beyond the desire for pleasure at the expense of other creatures. And you are fortunate enough to realize it! Congratulations! Viewed in the big scheme of things, there are no disadvantages of a vegetarian diet. It is very much worth the small sacrifices mentioned above.
