Colloidal Minerals for Complete Nutrition
Colloidal minerals ought to be part of our strategy to find natural ways to avoid the diseases that plague modern societies. Mineral supplements belong in a healthy diet plan. Minerals are the critical building blocks from which all our tissues, bones, and blood are created. Each mineral has a specific part to play: without sufficient quantities of that particular mineral, that enzyme, hormone, or tissue cannot be properly replicated in the chemical factory that is our body. Admittedly, there is much learned discussion on the subject of whether colloidal minerals are as easily usable in our body as chelated minerals. I, as I have related elsewhere on this Web site, am not a doctor, nor a scientist, but I have listened to and read their arguments over this subject. For years, I have taken chelated minerals made under pharmaceutical standards and--from what I could tell--they did a fine job at keeping my body working and disease free. Over the past few months, an old injury (a torn rotator cuff in my shoulder) began to give me some excruciating pain, like a knife was being stabbed into the joint and tendons of my right shoulder. I have been taking an excellent vitamin/mineral supplement, plus a calcium/magnesium/Vitamin D supplement very consistently for many years. Hesitant to go to a doctor, having a good idea what expensive and dangerous treatments (surgery or cortisone shots) they would recommend, I decided to try a more complete colloidal mineral preparation. I reasoned that this might give my body the raw materials it needed to heal itself. The main point I want to convey here, is that minerals are essential for the proper functioning of our bodies. It has been documented in numerous studies over the years, that, due to modern farming methods that only replace 3 of the 90 mineral/elemental nutrients they take out of our soil, our vegetable, fruit, grain, and legume crops cannot give us all the building blocks we need for rebuilding worn-out tissues. One study I found showed that over the past eighty years, the average levels of Calcium, Magnesium, Iron, are down 81.25%, as of 1997. Organic farming methods are reportedly producing more nutritious produce, but it may take many years to replace the soil nutrients that have been lost prior to conversion to organic, sustainable methods. The bottom line, whether you choose colloidal minerals or laboratory-formulated chelated minerals, it is necessary to supplement with a wide range of minerals--we can't depend on getting enough from eating a wide range of vegetables, because the minerals are no longer in our soils. So, supplementation is, I believe, necessary for optimal health. As American methods of intense cultivation of one crop, year after year, have replaced the traditional crop rotation system of agriculture, with only Nitrogen, Potassium, and Phosphates being returned to the soil in most cases, it only makes sense that our food cannot contain the mineral nutrients it once did. This is also true in countries such as India, Pakistan, the Philippines, Malaysia, and wherever the Green Revolution was presented as a way to increase crop yields through "modern, improved" methods of fertilizing. What I have found after using the colloidal minerals (derived from ancient plant deposits) for only about ten days is that my should gives me no more of the stabbing pains and my normal range of motion and strength are returning. Whether this improvement would have resulted from taking a complete chelated mineral supplement is unknown. This, obviously, is not a scientific experiment(though I have tried to control for variables, such as use of pain relievers). In any event, I am very happy to be getting the use of my right arm back. I plan to continue using the colloidal mineral preparation to see if I can totally repair my torn cartilege. Another parting thought about the importance of mineral supplementation is this: It has been suggested by a number of authors that much of our overeating and food cravings are a result of our bodies unconscious search for more of the minerals that used to be in our foods. This argument makes sense to me. We may be trying, by eating more, to get the minerals in quantities that used to be present in much smaller amounts of fruits, vegetables, etc. Our soils--and thus our foods--are so depleted that we just can't eat enough to get the minerals we need. We must supplement. One way or another, through the use of colloidal minerals or chelated minerals, we need to give our bodies all the raw materials they need to replace our aging cells, repair injured or diseased tissues, and produce the co-factors that allow us to metabolize energy from our foods. I have heard that we must replace all our cells every seven years! To do so, we need to supplement to make sure we get sufficient minerals, because even if we eat very well, chances are we're not getting enough minerals in our diet. I will report again on colloidal minerals to let you know how my shoulder is healing. News Update: As of 7/27/10, my shoulder continues to heal and is pain free!
